Yainer Carbonell Vegueriz (teaching with us every Tuesday) is one of Cuba’s foremost professional dancers and choreographers with extensive experience for stage and screen in contemporary dance, Cuban popular dance, specializing in Afro-Cuban folklore.

Prior to moving to the UK, Yainer spent four years as a full-time dancer with Ballet TVC Nacional – one of Cuba’s leading dance companies, and certainly the company with the widest repertoire, and 3 years as a principal dancer with Oro Negro, specialising in Afro-Cuban folklore, touring regularly throughout Europe.

His numerous UK performances and choreographic credits include dancing before her Majesty the Queen for the Commonwealth Observance at Westminster Abbey, the full-length theatre show ‘ASERE: On My Mind’ with a cast of 10 which debuted at Glasgow’s Mitchell Theatre in October 2011 and constant appearances at UK’s biggest Salsa Congresses such as the London and Bournmouth Salsa congresses, Afro Cuban Salsa Fiesta in Norwich and Salsa Feel The Heat in Wigan.

Since his arrival in 2010, Yainer has wowed the dancing public of Scotland by being the legend that he is, and in July 2014 joined forces with Anneta Tampuori, Ori’s Managing Director, to continue helping others discover their passion for dance!

 

yamilYamil Cuedo Ferrera (teaching with us every Thursday) is originally from Santiago de Cuba and he has been dancing since he can remember. Before moving to Edinburgh, Scotland, he was a professional dancer for almost 5 years with Ballet Folklorico Cutumba, one of Cuba’s top Afro-Cuban dance and music ensembles.  With an extensive repertoire based on authentic music and historically researched dances, Cutumba is a leader in its field and has toured internationally on numerous occasions.  Prior to Cutumba, Yamil danced with la Ceiba and Sangre y Tradicion dance companies in Santiago as well as other dance groups for over 15 years.

Since his arrival in Scotland 6 years ago, Yamil has been teaching at Dancebase (Edinburgh), the National Centre for Dance for Scotland; DanceHouse (Glasgow); Rumba Latina (Aberdeen) and various venues around the United Kingdom. He has featured as a guest tutor at the Dublin Salsa congress in 2009; Pontins Blackpool in 2008; the Scottish Salsa congress Edinburgh in 2009, 2011 and 2012; the Roots of Salsa in Manchester in March 2013; Afro-Cuban weekender in London in March 2014. Yamil has also successfully run dance workshops all over the UK, and performed at many events and special activities, including weddings, conferences and corporate activities.  His characteristic energy, big smile and Cuban warmth radiate to everyone who sees him dance!

 

victorVictor Ramirez Reginfo (teaching with us at Cubanitos once a month) is originally from the city of Santiago de Cuba (Cuba). He started dancing in 1998 at the age of 15 in an amateur group of French – Haitian Folklore called ABBURE EYE (Band of Brothers). Whilst part of this group he acquired his first knowledge of dance, participating in many festivals both nationally and internationally.

His professional career began in 2004 when he attended an audition with the prestigious company, Ballet Folklorico Cutumba, on August 5 of that year. In this company he developed his skills and talents across the range of Afro-Cuban dance achieving the level of ‘bailarin solista’ (Soloist). He has participated in several presentations at national and international level, as well as cultural exchanges and workshops in which he served as professor and instructor of different dance genres like Salsa, Son and French – Haitian Folklore to people from different parts of the world such as Britain, Netherlands, USA, Italy etc. Most recently, in May 2011, he took part in the DanceAfrica festival at the Brooklyn Academy of Music when Ballet Folklorico Cutumba were invited to take part in this USA event.

Victor has only recently arrived in Edinburgh where he has successfully worked with his ex-colleague Yamil in dance workshops & classes, and performed at various events delighting people with his energy and love of dance as well as his amazing smile.
